The only things you need to take on this trip with you are: a towel, money if you want to buy any additional drinks, photos (about 20 USD) and tips and a phone to take pictures (you cannot use flash and wouldn't want to - just use your night setting). He poured the water onto a white cloth and it sparkled and dazzled with the microorganisms which was an incredible sight. Our captain filled a bottle of water from the lagoon and got us all together in a tiny circle to make it as dark as possible. The water is warm and it's best to visit when there isn't a full moon to make the most of the blue water. The silt also stuck to my skin giving me a rather entertaining hairy looking chest!! We were only out on the lagoon for half an hour but this was plenty of time. Do not wear anything white!! The lining of my bikini was white and came back a khaki green. There was a photographer on board too who took lots of photos but they didn't come out too well and my night setting on my camera phone did a sufficient job. We were the only ones on board who seemed to get stung. The marks did die down very quickly but it would have been nice to have been told, although it would not have stopped me doing this experience as it was so amazing. We were never told about jellyfish in the water and I can definitely say the marks on my arm were not a reaction to silt. I actually searched TripAdvisor when back at the hotel and found a link to moon jellyfish. We washed ourselves off under one of the makeshift showers back on shore and I noticed red marks on my arm which looked like jellyfish marks. On the boat we spoke with the lifeguard and he said it was a reaction to the silt in the water. It was pitch black on board and so we could not see anything until we got back to shore. My husband said he felt them on his neck too and so we both left the water. After a few minutes of being in the lagoon swimming around I felt stinging sensations on my arms like nettles. It was quite a magnificent sight and when I was swimming breaststroke my hands looked like they belonged in Avatar. The lagoon is very shallow and you can't really touch the bottom otherwise you'll disturb the microorganisms and can't see the blue light and so you do have to tread water. It took just a couple of minutes to get to to the the swimming spot. I think ours was full enough as it was and so I wouldn't have liked to have been on the other one. Two boats set off at the same time and we had the one which was less occupied. There was some dancing to keep us entertained. We only had to wait about 10 minutes before being called to the boat. On arrival we were given a choice of either a rum punch or fruit punch. We booked with Island Routes and were the only ones on the transfer with our lovely driver, Ranny. We took this trip from Sandals Montego Bay which took around 45 minutes.
